2023.04.27 YEAR.10 CEREER EXPLORATION EXPERIENCE @3DPRINTLAB
I had the opportunity to explore the field of 3D printing, gaining valuable insights into the technology and its applications. The company is recognized for its expertise in designing aircraft models that can be downloaded by customers and printed at their own 3D printers at home.
KEY ACHIEVEMENTS
Explored the technology and applications of 3D printing within the aviation model sector. Identified customer concerns by researching the company's online presence and reviews, noting issues related to the cost of filaments and the need for additional components such as motors. Proposed a comprehensive package concept to the owner, including a motor, the 3D design of the plane, and the exact amount of filament required for printing.
REFLECTION : This experience allowed me to combine my understanding of customer needs with innovative thinking, showcasing my ability to identify opportunities for improvement within a business setting.
SERVICE-LEARNING EXPERIENCES
“Service Learning” enables ISB students to engage with their community, whether it is here in Brno, beyond the city or even the borders of the Czech Republic. It helps them become responsible global citizens. As a school, we work with local non-profit organizations to provide opportunities for our students to get involved.
2023.01.06 & 2022.11.02 YEAR.10 SERVICE-LEARNING EXPERIENCE @RYBKA GARDEN BRNO
Service-learning partnership for ISB. We will be working with Rybka Garden in Libusino Udoli, Kohoutovice. Rybka Garden is a charitable community garden in Brno, where volunteers and clients of various charities in Brno can meet to work, learn and relax. We will be taking the year 10s on the 2nd of November and the year 11s on the 9th of November to work in the garden, preparing fire-pits and seating areas for the garden.
For students participating in the Duke of Edinburgh International Award and the IB Diploma Programme, one of the most fun requirements is Service Learning. In addition to helping out the community, it is a chance to learn new skills and meet new people. We have recently set up a partnership with Rybka Community Garden and we are proud to be working with them to set up a community garden. Our Year 10 students’ recent job was to build and then test out the fire pit.
2022.03.04 YEAR.9 COLLECTION FOR UKRAINE
Students are taking up a collection of goods to be taken to Ukraine to help support the people. We are collecting the following items: Cans of food, instant food, sugar, tea, coffee, hygiene supplies, sanitary napkins (for women), toilet paper, clean and washed sleeping bags and blankets, gold thermofoil, diapers for children, cookies, charged power banks, batteries and flashlights, bandages, sim cards, moist hygiene wipes (wet wipes). The goods will be transported to Ukraine at the weekend
2020.12.01 YEAR.8 SERVICE-LEARNING EXPERIENCE-COLLECTION FOR HOMELESS (COVID.19)
During the Covid-19 lockdown, many homeless people in Brno have really suffered. Previously well attended soup kitchens and shelters are now shut or operating in a limited way. A makeshift tent town has been created and they have relocated members of the homeless community to this location. We are hoping that as a school we can help provide meals and food during this time. My proposal is that people can make up sandwiches or cakes or even simple meals in disposable containers or bags. We would have volunteers come around and collect your donated food (left on your doorstep), or you could drop it off at school. Tentatively, we'll be taking food 2x week, on Fridays and then Tuesdays and so on. Then we would then take the food to the tent town and leave it there. Playing cards or old board games, books and magazines in Czech, sanitary items, masks etc. would also be welcome. Please let me know if you are interested in helping.
2019.12.02 – 12.13 YEAR.7 SERVICE-LEARNING EXPERIENCE-FOOD AND CLOTHING DRIVE
Food and Clothing Drive / For their November Service Learning, the year 7, 8, and 9 classes have organized a food and clothing drive. We are looking for non-perishable food and gently used, warm clothing for donation. The food will be going to a local food bank, and the clothing will be handed out at our upcoming soup kitchen. If you have anything you would like to donate, send it with your student to their homeroom for a secondary student to pick up, or it can be donated straight to Ms. C's classroom until December 13th. Thank you for your support! / For service learning in November and December, students organized and planned a food and clothing drive for people in need. Students created posters and promoted the drive to all the classes in the school and collected all the donations. We were able to bring in lots of much needed clothing and food! The donated food will be given to a local food bank, and the clothing will be handed out at our monthly soup kitchen along with cookies that students baked. Thank you for all your donations and support.
2019.10.22 YEAR.7 SERVICE-LEARNING EXPERIENCE @THE BRNO ZOO
Volunteering at the Brno Zoo / Firstly, on Tuesday, October 22nd years 7-9 will be completing their second service-learning experience. We will be going to the Brno Zoo and volunteering our services raking leaves (and then we should have some time to visit the animals). Please make sure that your child is wearing their service-learning t-shirt, and is dressed appropriately for spending the morning outside. / ● Service Learning - getting out and helping around Brno. Each month, ISB students take time to get out in the classroom to work together to represent the school and learn one of the proven habits of successful people in the world. This month we are volunteering at the zoo, which is a great opportunity to appreciate how much work and time goes in to maintaining such a large facility. We’ll be able to look more closely at those numbers in Math class

SCIENCE PROJECTS
Every year, ISB participates in the Vienna Science Fair put on by the Vienna Chapter of Institute of Nuclear Materials Management (INMM). In the past, we have had students win first place overall and first place in their category. This year, the Fair is taking place completely online and so there is nothing stopping our young scientists from doing Science at home and submitting their experiments and findings. We’ll keep you posted
2023.03 YEAR.10 VIENNA SCIENCE FAIR PROJECT-CLIMATE CHANGE
TITLE : Bio vs. non-bio, which type of Shampoo is More Harmful to the Plants we Eat?
QUESTION : How do the effects of bio and non-bio shampoo on mung bean growth differentiate?
HYPOTHESIS : We believe that higher concentrations of the shampoo will equally harm the mung beans, but at lower concentrations, the bio shampoo will be better for growth.
Introduction: Greywater by definition means, “the relatively clean wastewater from baths, sinks, washing machines, and other kitchen appliances.” Greywater can be used for a multitude of tasks, and in our case, watering edible plants. Each year in the United States alone, one trillion gallons of water is used for showering. Now our group isn’t telling you to not shower, but we do want to encourage the usage of greywater. Greywater collection systems can be homemade or bought prebuilt.
Here are some benefits of these systems:
* Saves Energy
* Reduces water consumption in the average household by 40% (saves money!)
* Reduces the amount of water going into sewage systems.
Our group will emulate shower greywater by mixing shampoo and water. Two types of emulated shower greywater will be created (1 bio and 1 non-bio), and each type will have five different levels of shampoo concentration. The reason we are doing this is to find out what kind of shampoo (bio or non-bio) is more or less harmful to crops, specifically mung beans. This can help those who own a greywater collection system choose what shampoo they want to use if they use their greywater for watering plants.
2021.03 YEAR.8 VIENNA SCIENCE FAIR ONLINE PROJECT-CHEMICAL ROCKET
Chemical Rocket Question: Will the amount of vinegar affect the distance that my rocket will fly?
INTRODUCTION : For my project I’m doing a Chemical Rocket. Chemical Rocket is a Rocket where inside you combine things to make it fly. In my Chemical Rocket I will combine vinegar and baking soda to make it fly. To answer my question, I will test my rocket three times with different amounts of vinegar. 250 ml (25% of the bottle), 500ml (50% of the bottle which is the normal) and 750 ml (75%of the bottle.)
HYPOTHESIS : I think 25% percent of the bottle will fly the most because it will be lighter so there is not going to be more weight pulling the rocket down and I think that 75% will be the least flying because it will be really heavy, and it will not have any air in the bottle so that the pressure could go out to launch the rocket.

2023.02.10 YEAR.10 ENGLISH LESSON - CRIME AND JUSTICE VOCABULARY AND PROCESSES PRESENTATION
In the criminal justice system, the people are represented by two separates yet equally important groups: the police, who investigate crime, and the public prosecution service, who prosecute the criminals. Year 10 students have been sharing their knowledge of crime and justice, as well as learning the language of the legal system.
2023.01.30 YEAR.10 PE LESSON - YOGA SESSION
Year 10 enjoyed a partner yoga session in their recent PE lesson. Partner yoga is a practice in which two people support each other in poses in a way that enhances posture and builds trust and communication. The benefits of yoga are well established and so making it a more collaborative activity is the way we do it at ISB. Namasté.

2020.01.24 YEAR.7 INDIVIDUALS AND SOCIETIES LESSON - ECONOMICS
Year 7 & 8 students developed understandings about the fundamental differences between planned economies and market economies by participating in simulations. In the planned economy simulation, shoe and pencil ministers set quotas and prices based on predicted demand. The ministers tried to use information from previous rounds to inform their decision, but they often found they had a shortage of one product and a surplus of the other. In the market simulation, store managers responded to demand by adapting the price and amount of product produced. They were more able to meet the changing needs of their customers, but they also quickly realized they could charge a lot more money and force the customers to pay.
2019.12.10 YEAR.7 INDIVIDUALS AND SOCIETIES LESSON - ZOO ECONOMICS
We make economics a priority in middle school. We want our students to become familiar with macro-economic systems (such as a market economy and a planned economy) and understand how economic systems shape their lives, but we also want students to be comfortable with economics on a micro level. We dive into personal finances—how do you save money, how do credit cards work, what is debt, how do you create and follow a budget? Students can often be intimidated by economics—lots of big numbers and new, challenging terminology. However, what students don’t always realize is that economics is everywhere, and they engage in economic decision making every day. We introduced the fundamentals of economics by challenging students to design a zoo. They had to decide what animals to include and where, while working in a limited space. Without realizing it, students were having conversations about scarcity, supply and demand, opportunity cost, marginal analysis and benefit vs cost analysis. Not so intimidating after all!
2019.10.06 YEAR.7 INDIVIDUALS AND SOCIETIES LESSON - BERLIN CONFERENCE
What was the Berlin Conference and why did it matter? Year 7 and 8 Individuals and Societies students used maps, primary sources and political cartoons to inquire, why is an event over 100 years ago still causing conflict and unrest? How are history and our world today connected? Berlin conference of 1884-1885 is still influencing our world.

I am pleased to inform you that tomorrow (Tuesday) and on Wednesday year 2 to 6 students will be participating to an art workshop. This workshop will be part of a big installation of display panels on the walls of the primary school corridor. The students will be introduced to street art and spraying techniques as well as they will find out about the difference between art and vandalism. The workshop will be led by Pavel Vagner (Skill Art z.s.), a professional street artist and myself, Ms. Sophie. The overall installation which will follow the workshop will allow the student's art works to be displayed on panels decorated by them. / ISOB primary school corridor and provide ingenious display panels for students work. The whole project is a skill art project in cooperation with ISOB art teacher. The children first got familiar with spraying technique and decorated their own display panels. The same panels were then cut inside to let some space for the children s art works. More display surfaces were then cut from cork and glued next to each class using interesting geometrical shapes.
